This summer, I had the honour of joining General Assembly’s Loire Summer Residency, founded by Melanie Ashton. During my time there, I deepened my colour-making practice - creating pigments and inks from the local landscape, experimenting with new recipes, and pushing my materials in exciting new directions.
After the residency came to an end, my partner and a couple of friends jumped on the ferry, picked me up and we spent a few days exploring. We ended up in Rouen and I was immediately taken by the medieval timber-framed buildings. Originally painted in natural ochres, today they’re recreated with modern paints, but still echo the colours of the earth. I wanted to reference this through paintings of the buildings using my own pigments collected in France.
I have created three watercolour paintings - all using my French pigments - in editions of 4, at different price points.
5% of all sales will be split and donated to two charities; HOPE not hate - an organisation working to expose and oppose far-right extremism - and the National Autistic Society - a charity dedicated to transforming autistic lives and changing attitudes towards autism.
