Polly Bennett
Clay and Colour: A Dialogue with Earth
Solo Exhibition at blackShed Gallery, Robertsbridge
March 2025
Clay and Colour: A Dialogue with Earth offered a unique opportunity to explore both the evolution of Polly's work and the creative process behind it. Visitors were guided through the journey from initial studio research to the final pieces, gaining an understanding of how Polly brings concepts to life. As part of this immersive experience, one of the gallery’s rooms was transformed into a second working studio for the duration of the show, providing a live, evolving insight into the artist’s practice.
Further into the gallery, visitors encountered the finished sculptural forms and works on paper that formed the heart of the exhibition. These pieces celebrated the vibrant colours and textures of the earth and landscape, particularly those found in the natural surroundings of blackShed, the Isle of Wight, and other locations across the UK. Each piece reflected the landscapes that have shaped the artist’s practice, engaging in a dialogue through the use of natural materials to represent them.
